  • Day 01 - Dubai / Moscow

    Arrive at Moscow airport, where you are met and transferred to the luxurious five-star Marriott Royal Aurora hotel (or similar) located in the heart of this vibrant city for a one-night stay.  We enjoy a welcome reception dinner at our hotel, whilst you meet your fellow travellers and anticipate the epic voyage that lies ahead.

  • Day 02 - Moscow / Embarkation

    Morning, take a city tour of Moscow, starting with the Kremlin (special early entrance that will give you a chance to enjoy it without the crowds). The visit includes one to the Armory Museum with a vast collection of Imperial Russian artwork.  Visit  the St Basil’s Cathedral on the Red Square. Enjoy a classic Russian lunch.

    Afternoon – be driven through the highlights of the city, and visit the Sparrow Hills observation point for a panoramic view; alternatively the tour may also take you on the grand Moscow Metro!  Early afternoon sees us boarding the luxurious Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express.  After settling in, we enjoy dinner in one of the beautifully designed restaurant cars as our rail adventure eastwards to Vladivostok begins.

  • Day 03 - Moscow - Kazan

    Arrival in Kazan, a picturesque and historic city in mid-morning. Situated on the River Volga, Kazan is the capital of Tatarstan. You will explore the Kremlin Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Within its walls, you will visit the stunning mosque and onion-domed cathedral.

  • Day 04 - Kazan – Yekaterinburg

    You will cross the Europe/Asia divide before arriving in the historic city of Yekaterinburg, founded in 1723 by Peter the Great. The cultural and architectural influences of European and Asian civilizations are ever present. Our tour takes you to the poignant site where Tsar Nicholas II and his family were executed by the Bolsheviks in 1918. Gain a powerful insight into the turmoil of the Russian Revolution.

  • Day 05 - Yekaterinburg – Novosibirsk

    This is a modern ‘Soviet’ City where the rich culture in arts, science and literature predominate. We visit the Opera House, the largest opera house in the world which houses two permanent ballet and opera companies. In front of it, you will see the imposing statue of Lenin.

  • Day 07 - Irkutsk

    Hailed as the ‘Paris of Siberia’, explore this fascinating city with the distinctive wooden architecture and the Decembrist House museum where you will enjoy a private concert.

  • Day 08 - Lake Baikal

    Lake Baikal and its beauty is a major highlight on your journey. For five hours the train winds its way along the narrow cliffs and through tunnels with a vista of snowcapped peaks. At 1700m depth, Lake Baikal is the deepest lake in the world and holds 20% of the world’s freshwater. As a UNESCO World Heritage, its age and isolation have helped evolve one of the world's richest and most unusual freshwater faunas of which we will taste the fish Omul. Opportunity to swim in the lake for the brave hearted or take a hiking tour. Evening barbecue on the Angara River banks.

  • Day 09 - Lake Baikal – Ulan Ude

    Ulan Ude, capital of the Buryat Republic, is ethnically and culturally diverse. As we tour the area you will notice the different faces and dress styles of these welcoming and religious people. You will be treated to a traditional meal and enjoy a folk concert featuring local dancers and musicians.

  • Day 10 - Ulaan Baatar

    (For guests taking the Ulaanbaatar and Gobi extension by Country Holidays – disembark at 10am, and proceed for private touring

    Arrive in Ulaan Baatar, capital of Mongolia and once the center of Genghis Khan’s empire. Renowned for its endless green Steppes, nomadic people with their grazing livestock and white Gers (Yurts). Passing Sukhebaatar Square we visit the National Museum and the Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. You will have the opportunity to meet a nomadic family in their Ger or try your hand at horseback-riding, an intrinsic part of Mongolian life.

  • Day 11 - Onboard

    Relax or practice your Russian as the journey follows the Shilka and Amur rivers, close to the Chinese border.  Enjoy Russia at its most dramatic and remote on your way to Vladivostok.

  • Day 13 - Onboard

    You spend your last full day on board passing through Khabarovsk and crossing the River Amur.  Enjoy your last evening onboard the train which has been your home for the last twelve days.

  • Day 14 - Vladivistok

    After travelling through 8 time zones and covering an amazing 9250km, the Golden Eagle pulls into Vladivostok, a military port located on the western shores of the Sea of Japan. We will explore its principal military attractions including a tour of a restored submarine. The final evening is spent saying our goodbyes to our fellow travelling companions and friends at the Farewell Dinner.

    Following breakfast, you will be transferred to Vladivostok airport to begin your journey home.

    DAY 02          ST. PETERSBURG
    This morning, go on a walking tour. You will walk along Nevsky Prospect, the main street of the city, past the Bronze Horseman statue of Peter the Great, the first Stock Exchange, Decembrist’s Square, Vasilievsky Island, Smolny, Cathedral, Palace Square and the Admiralty building and many beautiful bridges of the city. You will also visit the beautiful St Isaac and Church of Spilled Blood.

    Devote the afternoon to Hermitage, which compares with Louvre or British Museum as a truly world-class museum. Then, spend time at the Palace Square – the central city square of St. Petersburg and of the former Russian Empire. The iconic Alexander Column is located in the centre and it witnessed many historical events.

    Optional: Folk Show in Nikolaevsky Palace with the best seat and return transfers to hotel.

    DAY 03          ST. PETERSBURG
    This morning, we make an excursion to the former summer residences of the Russian court Peterhof. You will visit the Grand Palace itself as well as explore the lovely garden – with both French and English style sections.
    This afternoon, we start with a trip to the outskirts of St Petersburg, Russia, to Catherine Palace, located in the little town of Pushkin. It was the summer residence of the Russian tsars and also was a remarkable example of Russian baroque architecture. Like the honored guests of the Russian tzars, the nowadays visitors can also admire the full splendor of the palace interiors and the must-not-miss Amber room.

    Optional: Watch world renowned Mariinsky Ballet with the best seat and return transfers to hotel.

    DAY 04          ST PETERSBURG / MOSCOW
    This morning, visit Peter & Paul Fortress, the best place to tell the history of the city. Then take a private boat tour along the canal to see the city from a different perspective. You have the afternoon at leisure for shopping and self exploration before you are transferred to airport.

    DAY 10          DISEMBARKATION / ULAANBAATAR
    Your train will arrive Ulaanbaatar around 10 am. Meet your guide at the train station. Stroll through Sukhbaatar Square named in honor of the revolutionary Leader and Zaisan Memorial, built by the former Soviet Union to commemorate fallen soldiers of World War II. Those who climb the 300 steps will be rewarded with a beautiful panoramic view of the capital city, the Tuul River, and the surrounding countryside.

    DAY 11          ULAANBAATAR
    Begin the day with a visit to Gandan Monastery, the seat of Buddhism in Mongolia, where you can observe their daily rituals, including the reading of sutras (teachings of the Buddha). Also visit the reconstruction and renovation projects of the Chenrezi and Kalachakra Temples, as well as the magnificent statue of Migjid Janraisig (“the lord who looks in every direction”).

    Next, drive to the National History Museum for an excellent overview of Mongolia’s history and culture.  Continue to the Zanabazar Fine Arts Museum, the museum contains one of the best collections of Buddhist art and artifacts in the world, including many of Zanabazar’s original works.

    In the evening, attend a theatre performance featuring traditional Mongolian dancers and khoomi throat singers.

    DAY 12          ULAANBAATAR / GOBI / YOL VALLEY

    In the morning fly over vast steppe to the Gobi (1.5 hours), Mongolia’s southernmost province of semi‐arid desert. Contrary to the sameness that the word ‘desert’ suggests, the Gobi is a fascinating and diverse region, and includes sites of some of the most important paleontological discoveries of this century.

    Upon arrival drive to the Yol Valley National Park cradled in the foothills of the Altai Mountains. Enjoy visiting the local natural history museum for an overview of the flora and fauna of the area. In the evening, if time permits, drive to Havsgait to see the amazing artwork of the ancestors. Preserved at the top of the mountain are some of the precious petroglyphs of the Gobi, ancient and beautiful works of art that can be clearly seen as the sun hits the rocks from the right angle.

    DAY 13          MOTSOG ELS / FLAMING CLIFFS
    Today drive to Moltsog Els, one of the few regions of the Gobi covered by sand dunes. Next, drive to the legendary Flaming Cliffs (1 hour), named for the redorange sandstone that glows brilliantly at sunrise and sunset. Return to the ger camp for dinner and overnight.

    DAY 14          GOBI / ULAANBAATAR / HONG KONG
    Fly back to Ulaanbaatar in the morning and catch the flight back home
