Itinerary

 How our program differs from the Traditional Inca Trail

  • Our less demanding trail spread across more days, has less steep climbing and downhills
  • Stay in enchanting mountain lodges with high-quality service instead of camping tents
  • Spend 2 nights in Cusco and 2 nights at our first lodge before the trek to acclimatise to altitude
  • You will have your private trekking guide, to enjoy the trek at your own pace
  • Trek light! We will transport your luggage by horses/porters, so you only trek with a day pack.
  • Certain sections can be done using vehicle or horse-back riding if you prefer


  • Day 00/01 - Dubai / Lima

    Upon arrival, be met and transferred to your hotel for a good rest.

  • Day 02 - Lima

    This morning, have a panoramic tour of the historic centre of Lima – a UNESCO world heritage site! Roam the old colonial streets and the modern district of San Isidro and Miraflores. Be impressed by the Larco Museum with the most extensive collection of pre-Columbian art in Peru.

    Enjoy a traditional criolla lunch at an old manor house with pisco sour tasting – Peru’s national drinks

    Complete your city tour with a visit to the Bohemian neighbourhood of Barranco, known for its artist studios, open-air market, and picturesque parks. 

    OPTIONAL: CULINERY EXPERIENCE WITH TOP CHEF
    This evening, enjoy an intimate culinary workshop with Pedro Miguel Schiaffino, renowned chef of Malabar – one of the World’s Best 100 Restaurants.

  • Day 03 - Lima / Cuzco - Pisac

    Altitude: Cuzco (3,399 m); Pisac (2,972m)

    Fly Lima / Cuzco LA 2123 0900/1035 – Daily (1h 35m)
     
    Upon arrival, firstly drive to the archaeological site of Pisac, another impressive Inca complex, with terraces built on its hills and colour markets. 
     
    Drive back to Cuzco in the late afternoon. Take the rest of the day leisurely to let your body acclimatise to the high altitude.

  • Day 04 - Cuzco

    This morning, explore this exotic Inca capital, which has been listed as a World Heritage Site. From the main square to the Cathedral and Santo Domingo Church. Continue to San Blas, a picturesque neighbourhood and end with a visit at San Pedro Market.

    This afternoon, continue to Coricancha, the Temple of Sun. Visit Sacsayhuaman Fortress, an amazing and huge stone construction.

    This evening, you will have a briefing with your private trekking guide who will be with you for the next 7-days.

  • Day 05 - Cuzco /Soray Pampa / Salkantay Lodge

    Altitude: Aguas Calientes (2,040 m); Machu Picchu (2,430m)
    Trekking Time: Approximately 6 hours (including picnic lunch en route). | Hiking Level: Moderate
    *Guests who do not wish to trek may be transported to the lodge by vehicle

    Depart early by car, enroute to visit the Inca ruins of Tarawasi. Pass through the mountain village of Mollepata before ascending to Marcoccasa.

    Here, we begin our trek to Soraypampa, on an old route called the “Camino Real” (Royal Path). This is a good opportunity for everyone to acclimatize, while enjoying a beautiful six hour trek. Arrive at your lodge and relax by the fireplace.

  • Day 06 - Humantay Lake Day Hike

    Trekking Time: Approximately 4 hours | Hiking Level: Moderate to challenging 

    Today we take an acclimatization hike on the slopes above the lodge to Lake Humantay, fed by the hanging glaciers of Mt. Humantay. This afternoon, you may choose to trade the glacial swim for a relaxing soak in our outdoor jacuzzi.
    Optional Activity Available: Kayaking at Lake Humantay / Horseback riding.

  • Day 07 - Salkantay / Wayra Lodge
    Trekking Time: 6-8 hours, including lunch | Hiking Level: Challenging, crossing a 4,638m (15,213 ft) mountain pass. 

    After an early start, we hike up the Rio Blanco valley, circling Humantay Peak across from Salkantay Peak. The highest point on the trek is the Salkantay Pass at 4,638 m. At the pass we stop to take in views of snowcapped peaks of the Vilcabamba Range. Descend towards Wayra our destination for the evening.

  • Day 08 - Descend: Wayra Lodge To Colpa Lodge
    Trekking Time: 3-4 hours | Hiking Level: Easy to moderate 

    This morning, continue your descent along the left bank of the Salkantay River. Upon arrival at Colpa Lodge we are greeted with a Pachamanca, a traditional festive Peruvian meal.

    Spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring the nearby orchid trail.
    Optional Activity Available: Afternoon bike from Manchayhuaycco to Collpapampa (3 hrs) -  at additional cost.  

    Overnight: Colpa Lodge (2,870 m)
    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

     

  • Day 09 - Along Santa Teresa River Valley

    Trekking Time: 5-6 hours, including lunch | Hiking Level: Moderate to challenging due to long distance

    Today we hike along the Santa Teresa river valley. A hot picnic lunch is served by the river. After lunch, hike another hour before a short drive to the beginning of the “Llactapata Inca Trail”. Make our way to Lucma Lodge, set in an avocado orchard. On the way we visit an organic coffee plantation.
    Optional Activities: Zip Line or biking – at additional cost

    Overnight: Lucma Lodge (2,135 m)
    Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

  • Day 10 - Lucma / Machu Picchu
    Trekking Time: 4-6 hours, including lunch | Hiking Level: Moderate to challenging due to long distance

     

    Tackle the last day of your trek. Head uphill towards Llactapata Pass, where we come upon a distant but spectacular view of Machu Picchu Sanctuary from the southeast, a view few travelers ever get a chance to admire. Explore the Llactapata Ruins and begin the final descent to the Aobamba River. Board a train for a scenic rideto Aguas Calientes, the town of Machu Picchu.

  • Day 11 - Machu Picchu / Ollantaytambo / Scared Valley

    Altitude: Sacred Valley (2,871 m)

    Enjoy a guided tour of Machu Picchu Sanctuary, after which you have the option of climbing the steep staircase of Huayna Picchu.

    After lunch, take the train to the archaeological site of Ollantaytambo. Continue the drive to Urubamba, a small town under the snow-capped mountain Ch’iqun.

    Meals: Breakfast, lunch

  • Day 12 - Sacred Valley / Cuzco

    Today, have an excursion to Moray terraces and Maras Salt Mines. You may explore from Moray to Maras by short trek or mountain biking. Check with us for more details.

    After lunch, drive back to Cuzco. This evening, join an entertaining night walking tour around the ancient city map, learn some interesting details about the city's history, and her very real legends. 

    OPTIONAL 1-DAY EXTENSION: SLEEPING IN THE SKY
    The Skylodge Adventure Suites - a completely transparent hanging bedroom, overlooking the Sacred Valley. You will need to climb Via Ferrata or hike through ziplines. Enjoy a gourmet dinner under thousands of stars.

  • Day 13 - Cuzco / Lima / Dubai

     

    OPTIONAL: CUYUNI VILLAGE TREK – recommend for min 4 persons
    Make an excursion to the remote mountain village of Cuyuni. You’ll have a chance to mingle and stroll with residents. Take the evening flight to Lima after dinner 

     

     Transfer to airport after breakfast

     Fly Cuzco / Lima LA 2046 1205/1335 – Daily (1h 30m)

    Upon arrival, be met and transferred to Miraflores in Lima and have some time at leisure. Miraflores has some of the best restaurants in town.  In the late evening, transfer back to airport for your flight back home.
